"The Environmental Imperative: How Can IT Contribute?"
Speakers: Brantz Myers & Rick Huijbregts
Global networks are bringing solutions to optimize and reduce energy consumption in a variety of powerful ways. For example, the management of energy hungry entities like buildings can be greatly improved by putting control in the hands of the user to drive optimization through powerful new tools. Advanced applications use the power of the Internet to give granular access to a variety of appliances in home and industry and can be used to permit their remote management by headquarters or even the power utility. Also, face-to-face meetings that previously required lengthy, carbon emitting air travel can be replaced by advanced teleconferencing systems where the boardroom experience can be virtualized and extended to anywhere in the world. We will study these and other examples of how networks are making a valuable contribution to our energy and communication challenges.
